A fun picture-matching game for children to help researchers find out what words children know at different ages.
Your child is eligible to take part in the study if:
- They have just finished Year 1 to Year 5 in England or Wales.
- They speak British English as their first language.

By taking part in this study, you and your child will be helping us to answer key questions about children’s language skills. This could, in time, help us find effective ways to identify and help children who are falling behind.
During the study, your child will play a picture matching game with Magda the Magnificent Dragon. The game lasts around 20 minutes and at the end you will be able to download a certificate showing that your child has contributed to science! We will also ask you to provide a few details about your child before they start the game.

For each child that takes part, we will donate £4.00 to The National Literacy Trust which aims to equip disadvantaged children with the literacy skills they need to succeed.
When you are ready, please click to start the study.
NOTE: The study must be completed on a laptop or computer. You need to be a quiet place and an adult needs to sit with the child during the task.
If you would like to ask any questions before you begin, please email j.rodd @ ucl.ac.uk
